Leader, Access and Identification

Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.

About the role

We’re on the lookout for a Leader, Access and Identification to oversee the day-to-day performance of our Access & Identification Team. Based at our Brisbane Head Office, you’ll lead a team of three and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements as outlined in the Virgin Australia Group Security manuals.

In this operationally critical role, you’ll manage daily workflows including access control, user group database management, and act as the escalation point for access-related risks across the business. You’ll also play a key role in driving continuous improvement—partnering with teams across the Virgin Australia Group to enhance procedures and systems through regular risk-based assessments.

Additionally, you will also be responsible for:

  • Develop and implement robust access control strategies, ensuring timely revocation and granting of access in alignment with security policies and risk assessments.
  • Facilitating and maintaining access control and ASIC (Aviation Security Identification Card) databases
  • Act as a key contact between Virgin Australia and BGIS for Access & ID operations
  • Manage access to Virgin Australia facilities, ensuring timely deactivation following staff departures
  • Conduct security risk assessments and facility access audits
  • Oversee and maintain Access & ID policies, procedures, and content on internal platforms (e.g. the Vine)
  • Manage and maintain the ASIC Program and associated documentation to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Monitor and manage the Access & ID budget with a focus on cost-efficiency
  • Lead and support a high-performing Access & Identification team, managing daily workload and BAU responsibilities
  • Liaise with Internal Departments, external Government agencies and third party contractors
  • Identify and implement system and process improvements that enhance efficiency and effectiveness

You’ll be great in this role if you:

  • A minimum of at least two (2) years of relevant aviation experience, with a strong understanding of regulatory requirements and operational standards (desirable)
  • A strong eye for detail and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures when dealing with high volumes of work.
  • Great communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to clearly communicate across all levels of Virgin Australia and external contractors
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing a team, driving performance and development
  • Proven experience in maintaining and using databases for analysis and reporting
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional relationships
  • Experience in process improvement and change management, with a focus on efficiency and compliance
  • Must hold or be eligible to hold an Australian Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
  • Understanding of the Virgin Australia Group (VAG) Transport Security Program and ASIC program
  • Previous exposure to confidentiality and privacy legislation
  • Experience in or exposure to quality assurance auditing is highly regarded
