SYDNEY BASE MANAGER

What you’ll be doing

The objective of the role is to work and consult with the Head of Line Operations and Policy and the Fleet Managers where required, to ensure a streamlined and consistent approach to daily line operations.

This is a full time, Monday to Friday position based in Sydney with on call duties to act as the Duty Management Captain when rostered on a rotational basis. You will be responsible to lead and manage the flight crew in their base, and other bases as required.

The role will play an integral part in ensuring the smooth and efficient day-to-day line operations of the Virgin Australia operation though effective policy and procedure execution and development for Line Operations Crew whilst acting in accordance with EBA, regulatory requirements, company procedures, and public expectations. 

You will mentor and support the Pilot Group with respect to personal welfare issues, rostering, bidding, career advancement and operational decision-making. You will ensure your team adheres to company agreed principles and behaviours. Where necessary, the Base Manager will take part in mediation and disciplinary hearings.

You’ll be great for this role if you have...

  • The ability to act as the first point of contact for Flight Crew in your base and to ensure the policies and procedures of the Flight Operations department are understood and applied in the correct manner
  • Exceptional leadership ability to engage and develop your team professionally to achieve strong results by the way of departmental KRA’s and communicating business strategies
  • Proven ability to oversee performance, diagnose systems, innovate to provide solutions and build strong rapport with key business stakeholders both internally and externally
  • A key understanding of the industrial agreements in place to ensure compliance
  • An understanding of Day of Ops Fatigue management to ensure FRMS compliance
  • General management of local based crew including disciplinary matters, health and wellbeing.
  • The capability to engage with local airport authorities and manage relationships with local airport cross departmental management
  • An understanding of how to manage base facilities and deal with base administration staffing and duties
  • A strategic mindset to actively participate and provide input to the Line Operations Leadership Team when required.

Desirable but not essential...

  • Boeing 737 commercial line experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Advanced level Computer Literacy.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Sound knowledge of CASA regulatory publications
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of company operational procedures and policies
  • Thorough understanding of industrial (workplace) contracts/agreements (EBAs) and the ability to interpret and apply in an accurate and consistent manner
  • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritise efficiently
